The Ordinary are a really great affordable skin care brand, and one that I use frequently.
The Ordinary brand began this year steeped in controversy. I’m not going to go into it here, because if you google there is plenty already out there on the internet that explains in full. I feel the need to point out, that the actions of the person involved were absolutely not acceptable. However, if like me you can’t afford to adorn your dressing table with the likes of Sunday Riley, then The Ordinary is both accessible and affordable.
I jumped on this bandwagon, along with everyone else, a few years ago. I do try other things but I always seem to come back to this brand. In particular these 5 products.
Hyaluronic Acid + B5
This is my absolute go to. Previously I was using the Indeed Labs one, but I just love the effect this has on my skin. Suffering with eczema my skin is prone to being very dry. Now unless you’ve been living under a rock in recent times, you’ll know that Hyaluronic can hold 10,000 times it’s weight in water. Which of course is great for dry skin. Don’t be worried about the ‘acid’ bit in it’s title, it’s not the same as something like glycolic. It’s actually a sugar molecule. I go back to this time and time again, even when I stray away and use something like the La Roche Posay Hydraphase Serum.
Vitamin C Suspension
This is a relatively new addition to my skin care regime. I had resisted for awhile, thinking I didn’t really want to add anything else. However, this year age has started to catch up with my skin and so I wanted something to help with that. Not that I’m avoiding aging, but my skin had started to look a little meh! So to give my skin a little boost with collagen production I added Vitamin C. It’s early days yet, but my skin is definitely looking a little firmer. Also I’ve read that it can help with the dark circles around my eyes, I’ll get back to you on that one!
Retinol 2% Emulsion
I’ve been using this for awhile and to be honest could probably do with increasing the strength. This is probably the product that had the most impact on my skin when I started to use it. Of course it doesn’t happen over night, but by the end of a six week period the results were really noticeable. It also goes without saying, when you are using any kind of retinoid (and something like glycolic) using an appropriate spf is an absolute must.
Having dry and reactive skin, this is a must in my routine, due to it’s anti-inflammatory properties. I tend to pat this onto my skin about 20 minutes after I’ve completed my evening skin routine. I use it to basically seal everything in. Last year when my skin was really not happy, I used this on it’s own more than once. It says it’s non greasy but my fringe would say otherwise in the mornings, but that said I really do love this product. It’s really moisturising even on it’s own.
High Spreadability Fluid Primer
Over the years I’ve tried various primers but they always break me out. I decided to try this one after a particularly sweaty night out last year, and my make up basically slid off my face! At first I was really dubious about using it, but I actually really liked it. It was light-weight and didn’t feel like I was wearing a sticky mask. I don’t use it every day but I always wear it if I need my make-up to stay in place for any length of time.
So that’s my Top 5 The Ordinary products. What are yours?
