Book Review: The One by Maria Realf

As a hopeless romantic, I absolutely loved this book!

I love chick lit.  I love romance.  I love it when love all works out.  However as we know the path to true love rarely runs smoothly, especially in a book!

The One by Maria Realf is about Lizzie who meets Alex and follows the twists and turns of their relationship for over a decade. The format of the book flips between time periods. The opening chapter is present day Lizzi.  The next chapter flips back in time to when she first meets Alex.  This continues until the last chapter.  I’m not usually fond of this style of book, but the story is so easy to follow that you over look the flipping and flopping of time.  It’s the classic love story of misunderstanding, tragedy and first love.

As it says on the back of the book, if you are a fan of Cecelia Ahern and Jojo Moyes then you will love this book.  I’m a huge Cecelia Ahern fan with PS I Love you being one of my favourite books.  The film adaptation not so much! I’d say this one is coming in at a very close second!  Given that this is (I think) Maria Realf’s first book, I’m excited to read what comes after!

If you are looking for an easy read, and love a good love story then I’d definitely recommend this.  With summer holidays coming up, this would be a fantastic beach read.
